How much does bulletproof glass cost?

How much bulletproof glass costs is largely determined by the question: Which weapon or ammunition should the glazing protect against?

Protection against handguns is usually cheaper than protection against long weapons, such as the NATO G3 rifle or the Kalashnikov AK-47.

Prices

The lighter and thinner the bulletproof glazing, the cheaper the window frames and glass assembly.

Here you will find approximate net prices,
staggered according to the following weapon categories:

Handgunsfrom 300 EUR / m2 from $ 30 / sqf
Long gunsfrom 600 EUR / m2 from $ 60 / sqf
War weapon ammunition (Hartkern, AP)from 900 EUR / m2 from $ 90 / sqf

The less bulletproof glass weighs, the cheaper the window frames are, as they have to bear less weight. The same applies to transport and assembly.

Bulletproof glazing with an area of approximately 1 to 6 m2 (10-60 sqf) can be produced particularly cost-effectively. From a glass surface of approx. 6 m2 (approx. 60 sqf), the manufacturing costs usually increase because the handling is a little more complex. The same applies if the glass area is smaller, about 0.5 m2 (5 sqf), as the set-up costs per piece are spread over a smaller area.

Bulletproof glass with additional thermal protection, i.e. a low U-value, requires additional thermal insulation layers. This increases the prices by around 10 to 30%. The advantage: less energy consumption by the building and thus lower heating costs.

If the bulletproof pane also reduces the energy input from the sun - one speaks of sun protection glass - the prices increase by approx. 10 to 30% compared to a monolithic pane. In return, you save operating costs for the air conditioning system.

Little weight - saves assembly costs

The installation costs for bulletproof glazing depend on how easy the access is at the installation site: is a large crane required? Can the bulletproof panes be transported through the building? Is the floor's load-bearing capacity sufficient and the rooms large enough for the panes to be transported. In principle, the following applies: the lighter the bulletproof panes of glass, the cheaper they can be installed.
