Cucumber water

This is not the vinegar-rich water from the pickle jar. It's about a trend from the USA in which cucumber slices are added to drinking water. Sounds unspectacular, but it is popular with the nutrition-conscious: Because with just twelve calories per 100 grams and their high water content, the cucumber can help you lose weight. For this, half an organic cucumber is cut into slices and about two liters of water are poured over it. Let the drink steep for a while before consuming it.

Fried cucumber

This food trend is something for fans of hearty snacks: Instead of potatoes, sour cucumbers are fried. The “fried pickles” with crispy breading can easily be prepared by yourself. You need a glass of pickles, a cup of flour, some milk, half a cup of breadcrumbs or breadcrumbs, two eggs, spices and oil. Cut the cucumber into letters and pat dry. Whisk eggs and milk in one bowl and mix the breading in another one made from the flour, breadcrumbs and spices. First dip the cucumber slices in the egg-milk mixture and turn them in the breading, then fry them in the deep fryer or in a saucepan with oil.

Cucumber lemonade

In 2014, the founders of “Cucumis” had the idea of ​​making lemonade from cucumbers. Four years later, the products of the start-up from Hamburg are available in 14 countries. The idea came to Till Fischer-Bergst and Vasco Kulke while mixing a Moscow Mule, or more precisely when slicing a cucumber as a garnish for the cocktail. The drink is made from regional cucumbers.

Cucumber ice cream

More and more ice cream parlors are offering the “cucumber” variety, also as a combined variety such as “lemon-cucumber” or “yoghurt-cucumber”. This recipe can be used to make cucumber ice cream for home: you need half a cucumber, two eggs, 200 grams of cream, 150 grams of cream cheese, 80 grams of sugar and mint leaves. To prepare it, grate the cucumber and cut the mint into small pieces. Separate the egg and beat the egg white until frothy, gradually stirring in the sugar. Also whip the cream and mix with the egg yolk, cream cheese, mint and cucumber. Then fold in the egg white foam. Finally freeze in an ice cream maker.

Cucumber cosmetics

The green vegetables are not only suitable for eating, but also as a beauty aid. Cucumber slices have a cooling and refreshing effect on the skin. Pureed and mixed with quark and aloe vera gel, it makes a soothing face mask. Tired feet can be soaked in a foot bath made from grated cucumber and water to relax.

Healthy vegetable

The cucumber is particularly rich in vitamins of the B group, but also contains vitamins C and E. There are also minerals such as potassium, calcium, zinc, iron and magnesium. Most of the nutrients are in the shell, however. The vegetables from the pumpkin family are said to have anti-inflammatory effects, detoxify the body and even help against bad breath.
