How to activate Adobe Digital Editions

Set up Adobe Digital Editions

General information about Adobe Digital Editions

Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) is software for reading and managing eBooks. ADE can also be used to read ePaper.

The special thing about Adobe Digital Editions is that it is relatively easy to handle digital rights management (i.e. Adobe DRM) for copy-protected eBooks. The software also automatically detects your eBook downloads.

We therefore recommend on your computer always install Adobe Digital Editions first before purchasing copy-protected eBooks. Adobe Digital Editions supports the following file formats:
PDF, EPUB and XHTML

Installation of Adobe Digital Editions

Step 1: Create an Adobe ID
Step 2: Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer
Step 3: Authorize the PC / MAC with your Adobe ID

Step 1: Create an Adobe ID

What is an Adobe ID anyway?
The Adobe ID is a user account with which you can use various Adobe services. The ID consists of a user name (namely your email address) and a password.

Before you begin installing Adobe Digital Editions software, you must create your own Adobe ID. To do this, visit the Adobe website: Create Adobe ID

Click on the link there.

An input form opens that you fill in with your personal information. Finally, check the terms of use and data protection guidelines (mandatory fields) and then click on »Register«.
Then follow the instructions on the website until you are greeted by Adobe in your temporary Adobe account.

After registration, Adobe will send you an email containing a confirmation link. The activation link is valid for approx. 72 hours and only when you open it is your Adobe ID verified and ready for use.

From now on, your specified email address is also your personal Adobe ID, with which you can access your Adobe DRM protected eBooks on up to 6 different devices.

Please make a note of your Adobe ID and password so that you can always only this one ID to use.

Step 2: Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer

After creating the Adobe ID (step 1), you can install the Adobe Digital Editions reading software for copy-protected eBooks on your PC or Mac. Adobe Digital Editions is now available in version 4.5.
Sometimes this leads to compatibility problems.
We therefore recommend that you work with version 2.0.1.
