Will Sony Ericsson return

The Sony Xperia Compact will return in 2021

Thanks to Apple's iPhone 12 Mini, Android users will get a real option for small phones with the return of the Sony Xperia Compact in 2021 ...

If you want a small phone and you are an Android user, you don't have a lot of choices. The Galaxy S10e is a great option, but the phone is now two generations old. There's not much out there for newer models. All of this will change in 2021 thanks to the return of the Sony Xperia Compact.

The OG Xperia Compact was launched in 2018, which would mean quite a belated follow-up. In any case, we can all look forward to the prospect of a really compact Android phone with flagship specs.

The news of the publication comes via the always accurate @onleaks. According to the tipster, the Sony Xperia Compact will use a 5.5-inch display and the case will be completely free of buttons on the front, which enables a really "compact" design that will only be marginally larger than the iPhone 12 Mini.

Sony Xperia Compact dimensions

How big will the Sony Xperia Compact be? According to the latest information, the phone measures 140 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm - that's damn compact. For comparison: The iPhone 12 Mini has the following dimensions: 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm.

As you can see, the Sony Xperia Compact is slightly larger than the iPhone 12 Mini, but not by much - it will still be the smallest Android phone you can buy by a considerable margin. The Sony Xperia Compact itself follows a similar design language as the current Sony phones, as you can see below:

With the camera you will see a dual lens setup with a 13MP primary sensor. We don't know much about the camera itself, although once it starts up, it seems likely that it will most likely run the Sony IMX686 module, which supports a 9248 x 6944 pixel resolution and has a 1 / 1.7-inch sensor that is 1.6 ┬Ám Pixel size.

Although the Sony Xperia Compact will be launched later in 2021, it is entirely possible that the Sony IMX689 will be used instead. This is the same module used by the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OPPO Find X2 Pro. Obviously, given the dual lens nature of the Xperia Compact, we were able to see something completely different. Until the phone is official all bets are closed.

Other specifications and functions

The Xperia Compact starts with Android 11 at its core. It will also support a headphone jack and there is hope for MicroSD support, although this aspect has not yet been confirmed. Not much is known about other specifications either. The phone will likely be on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 750G CPU, 6 GB RAM and have a relatively small battery due to their smaller size - perhaps 3000 mAh.

Sony has a MASSIVE opportunity to do something here. I think there is a huge demand for a really small Android phone. Apple's iPhone 12 Mini was a huge hit for Apple. So I'm willing to bet that with this phone, Sony can get everything in a nutshell - from specs to hardware - and keep the price relatively low, e.g. B. under $ 600. It could very well have a successful new phone in its hands.

I know I want the option to run a really compact Android phone. Cross your fingers, we'll get the option in 2021!
