Use iMessage apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

iMessage apps allow you to collaborate with others in a conversation, decorate messages with stickers, share a song, and much more - all without leaving the Messages app.

Find iMessage apps in the app drawer

The app drawer gives you quick access to apps that you can use in your messages. How to find the app drawer:

  1. Open "Messages".
  2. Tap the Create buttonto start a new message, or open an existing conversation.
  3. Swipe left or right across the app drawer to find the app you want.

Here is a selection of the apps that are automatically displayed in the app drawer:

Store: Download iMessage apps to use in the Messages app.

Photos: add photos to your messages right from the app.

Music: Share recently played songs from Apple Music.

#images*: Add hundreds of popular GIFs to your messages.

Apple Pay: Send and receive money with Apple Pay.*

Load iMessage apps

You can find and download apps that can be used in iMessage in the App Store for iMessage. It works like this:

  1. Tap the "Store" iconto go to the App Store for iMessage.
  2. Next to the app, tap the icon or on the "Price" icon and then on "Install". You may need to enter your Apple ID password to complete the purchase.
  3. Tap the gray lineto return to your message.

After the app has been loaded, it is displayed in the app drawer.

You can make additional purchases within some apps. If you've set up Family Sharing, you can use Request To Buy to control app downloads and in-app purchases. Learn more about in-app purchases here.

Manage iMessage apps

You can add apps to your favorites so that you can quickly access them in the app drawer. In the app drawer you can also rearrange apps, delete apps that you no longer want, and much more. It works like this:

  1. Swipe left in the app drawer and tap the More button.
  2. In the upper right corner, tap Edit to do the following:
    • To add an app to your favorites, tap the "Add" button.
    • To remove an app from favorites, tap the "Remove" button and then on "Delete from favorites".
    • To rearrange the apps in the app drawer, place your finger on the gray lines, then move the apps in the order you want.
    • To hide an app, turn it off.
  3. Tap on "Done".

Delete iMessage apps

  1. Open "Messages".
  2. Tap the Create buttonto start a new message, or open an existing conversation.
  3. Swipe left on the app, then tap the More button.
  4. Swipe left on the app, then tap Delete.
