Why is interior design better than architecture

Andras Koos Architectural Interior Design

At regular intervals I am asked what the difference is between an interior designer, an architect and an interior designer.

Who does what? You will find out in this post!

Actually, you could put the three professions in a rough schedule. First the architect starts building the house, then the interior designer comes and begins with the interior design. The interior decorator then implements the interior designer's ideas in curtains and floor coverings.

The tasks of the architect are actually relatively clear. He designs the house, the residential complex or the building. Then there is the landscape architect who is responsible for the areas around the house. In addition to the design for the house, the architect, also known as the “building architect”, also plans its infrastructure such as heating, electricity and water supply. How does an architect actually get his job? In private they are gladly recommended, but for larger projects competitions are organized by the city, the country or even companies. They can be invited or open, which means so much whether everyone interested or only certain ones can submit a draft. The winner (s) then have the opportunity to develop the project further with the client.

As a rule, architects do not take on the planning of the interiors or the specialist discipline “lighting planning”. This is where the interior designers come into play.

Interior designers plan and design a variety of rooms such as living rooms, practices, hotels, restaurants and of course shops and stores.
What does planning include? Basically everything starts with the design, as with architects, drafts are made in several stages and e.g. also developed the corporate design / storytelling concept for commercial projects. For this purpose, a light & color concept is created, materials are selected and of course the style and direction from classic to vintage to modern is determined. Suitable furniture and textiles are then selected for the defined conceptual framework or furniture, lights and carpets are designed and commissioned. In the end, a harmonious and coherent overall concept was created

Interior decorators are those who sew curtains and drapes, they make the sun protection and lay floors.

They also advise on the choice of materials and fastening systems.

The interior designer is a dealer and sells furniture. He often receives specifications from the manufacturer or furniture store where you work, which furniture you should sell. From this, they then develop the corresponding facility for the customer.
